Thomas (right) is in grade 3 and loves reading, video games, and running everywhere. He's turning 9 on the 16th.

Jude died a few months after their 2nd birthday from flu B.

Six years ago today I waited outside the Toronto S Six years ago today I waited outside the Toronto Star building with a two-year-old in an elephant hat and a big ask. The Prime Minister took the time to hear me out and, six years later, he’s had and shared his flu shot six times and encouraged Canadians to do the same.

I knew @justinpjtrudeau could reach millions of people I never could, and I can’t count how many people have told me they learned about Jude because they found us through his posts. And how many people have told us that it was Jude’s story that drove home how important it is to take steps to protect themselves and others.

There are a lot of people who have helped and supported every step of the way. Thank you, everyone who has listened, everyone who has jumped in, everyone who remembers Jude was here and still speaks his name. It’s everything, and all you’re doing can save lives. Thank you.

We don’t stop because we can’t. Let’s keep working to prevent empty chairs.

The flu shot is now widely available in Ontario. B The flu shot is now widely available in Ontario. Because of the flu, today I’m having another birthday without my son. I could think of no better way to mark the day than by doing what I can to protect someone else from being in our shoes.

It was quick and easy, and while it isn’t a guarantee, in two weeks it will significantly reduce my chances of infection, severe outcomes if I do get sick, or passing it on to others. I’d give anything to have Jude back. This is a simple step that could save someone’s life.

It’s normal and okay to have questions about your health. Check out our website for more about flu prevention, but always speak with your doctor for more information about vaccines.

We can’t prevent every case or every death, but we can do better, and help prevent stress on our hospitals. Jude deserved better. We’ve lost a lifetime with him in our home and our lives. Let’s take care of each other.
